How do I get from Belfast to Newcastle by public transport?
Look for Belfast–Newcastle bus services, including the 520, in Translink’s journey planner. Belfast Grand Central and Newcastle Bus Station are useful search points. Enter your exact travel date, check the departure stop, tickets and return journey, and allow time to reach your chosen walk from the bus station.

Which walks can I reach from Newcastle without driving?
Start with the promenade and Donard Park for a flexible outing from town. The Glen River route up Slieve Donard starts at Donard Park, but continuing to the summit turns it into a demanding mountain day. The Granite Trail is another uphill outing above Newcastle; use its separate route information. Tollymore, Castlewellan and Silent Valley need a further transport plan rather than being treated as town-centre strolls.

Can I reach Tollymore Forest Park by bus?
Search Translink for Bryansford and check the exact stop, walk to the entrance and return service. The summer Mourne Rambler serves Bryansford, but a stop in the village does not promise a stop at the start of every park trail. Check the service for your date. If the timetable cannot support your visit, arrange a taxi in both directions before travelling or choose a Newcastle outing that you can reach on foot.

Can I reach Silent Valley by bus?
The 405 Mourne Rambler has served Silent Valley as part of its summer loop from Newcastle. The official tourism guide describes it as a July-and-August service, so do not assume it runs for an autumn or winter visit. Check your date in Translink’s planner and plan the pickup as well as the outward journey. Outside a usable service, arrange a return taxi or prebooked shuttle; a bus to Kilkeel alone does not take you to the reservoir entrance.

How should I plan the return journey?
Find a return service before choosing the outing. Include the walk back to the stop, time to wait and any connection to Belfast. Keep a margin for tired legs and delays, and finish well before the last usable bus. For a taxi or shuttle, agree the pickup point and time in advance. If the return transport does not leave enough time for your intended walk, shorten the outing or choose a different place.
